Support for Pregnant Students
Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, including pregnancy and related conditions, in educational programs and activities. The University is committed to providing an environment for students that is free from unlawful discrimination based on a student’s current, potential, or past pregnancy or related medical conditions. The University recognizes that students with pregnancy and related medical conditions may need reasonable modifications to have equally effective opportunities to participate in education program or activities.
Our Office will collaborate with students and faculty to accommodate needs associated with pregnancy and related conditions.
Students who are pregnant and/or have pregnancy-related medical conditions are encouraged to notify our Office if they need assistance accessing the University’s education programs or activities due to their pregnancy or related medical conditions. Graduate students with assistantships are also encouraged to contact our Office to request approved and voluntary leave to recover from childbirth.
Similarly, all employees are encouraged to notify our Office when a student, or a person who has a legal right to act on behalf of the student, informs the employee of their pregnancy or related medical condition. Notifying our Office ensures that the student has access to information and resources available to the student related to their pregnancy or related medical condition.
