Title IX/Sexual Misconduct Advisors/Support Persons

Student parties involved in a Title IX/Sexual Misconduct investigation are permitted to have an advisor throughout the grievance processes. During formal hearings under Procedure 1, the parties are required to have an advisor to conduct cross-examination during the hearing.

In addition to their advisors, parties may also elect to have a support person accompany them to meetings and proceedings under the grievance process. In this case, the support person’s participation will be limited to providing support and guidance, similar to the advisor. During a formal hearing, if a party elects to have an advisor to conduct cross-examination and a support person to provide guidance and support, their participation will be limited based on their stated roles. Only one advisor may be designated to conduct cross-examination during the hearing.

Advisors and support persons are encouraged to review the Advisor Information document linked below to better understand their role during the grievance process and during formal hearings specifically. All support persons and advisors are expected to abide by the rules and principles contained in the documents below.
