Letter From The President

Letter from the President

Dear UA Community,

At The University of Alabama, we are committed to fostering a campus defined by respect, safety and civility. Each of us has a role to play in preventing sexual misconduct, supporting those impacted and ensuring our community remains one where everyone can thrive.

The University’s Title IX and Sexual Misconduct Policy outlines prohibited conduct — including sexual harassment, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, sexual exploitation, retaliation and related concerns. The policy details reporting options and supportive measures available to students and employees.

If you need assistance, please know that resources are always available:

  • The University of Alabama Police Department (UAPD) provides services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year through a dedicated staff of sworn, state-commissioned police officers. Criminal reports can be filed by calling (205) 348-5454 or by visiting UAPD’s headquarters on Jackson Avenue, or the Strip Precinct on University Boulevard.
  • The Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX Programs oversees the University’s compliance with Title IX, receives and investigates reports, and provides supportive measures such as academic assistance, safety planning, medical and counseling referrals, and informal resolution services. All UA employees (unless designated confidential) are mandatory reporters. To connect with the office, make a report or contact Title IX Coordinator Jessica Humber, call (205) 348-5496 or email titleix@ua.edu.
  • UAct serves as a central resource for reporting sexual misconduct and other health, safety and conduct concerns.
  • Counseling and confidential support are available through multiple sources. The Camellia Center provides free, compassionate victim advocacy and counseling services, including teletherapy, for University community members who are survivors of interpersonal violence, and for family and friends who have been impacted. Advocates are available 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays, for crisis intervention and support. After hours, an on-call advocate can be reached through UAPD at (205) 348-5454.
  • Additional confidential counseling services include the Counseling Center, which supports students, and the Employee Assistance Program, which provides free and confidential counseling for employees and their families. The Tuscaloosa Safe Center, a 24/7 sexual assault crisis center, offers a free, compassionate, patient-centered environment for sexual assault forensic examinations. A comprehensive list of counseling and support options is available on the University’s Title IX Supportive Measures website.

Together, we share the responsibility to create a culture of safety, respect and accountability. Thank you for taking the time to familiarize yourself with these resources and for your commitment to preventing and addressing sexual misconduct at The University of Alabama.
